Loadstone GPS Acceptable Use Policy

Pointshare Usage Policy

The Pointshare is primarily intended for use by users of the Loadstone application. We also understand that other projects have been designed to be
compatible with the Loadstone format. Usage by users of other projects is permitted as long as the primary data source for those projects is not
Pointshare and such use does not affect Loadstone users.

However, Loadstone's own servers are run entirely on personal resources. They have strictly limited capacity. Heavy use of Pointshare
can adversely affect other users' abilities to obtain data, and is an abuse of server resources and bandwidth. As a result, we require that users of
Pointshare abide by this usage policy.

Below are the minimum requirements that users of Pointshare must adhere to. These may change in the future, depending on available
resources. Should any users or patterns of usage nevertheless cause problems to the service, access may still be blocked without prior
notice. We will try to contact relevant parties if possible, but cannot guarantee this.

Requirements

Heavy use (e.g. distributing an app that uses Pointshare is forbidden without prior permission from the System Administrators.
Do not actively or passively encourage copyright infringement.
Calls to export data may only be triggered by direct end-user action. (For example: "click here to export".) The export call is
an expensive (CPU+RAM) function to run and will frequently reject when server is under high load.
Realtime downloading (E.G. downloading points as a user moves) is forbidden.
Use by any commercial service is strictly forbidden.
Technical Usage Requirements
Valid HTTP User-Agent identifying application. Faking another
app's User-Agent WILL get you blocked.
If known, a valid HTTP Referer.
DO NOT send no-cache headers. ("Cache-Control: no-cache", "Pragma: no-cache" etc. Cache point downloads locally. Maximum of 2 download threads. (Unmodified web browsers' download thread limits are acceptable.)

Note: modern web browsers in standard configuration generally pass all the above technical requirements.

Bulk Downloading

Bulk downloading is strongly discouraged. Do not download points unnecessarily.

Uploading Content

Users may upload data to Pointshare. Users uploading to Pointshare understand that this data will be public and shared with others. Users may only upload data they have the right to distribute. This means data the user has created themselves or data from publicly available sources.
Do not upload data obtained from commercial sources or who's license does not permit free public distribution. It is the uploader's responsibility to ensure any data uploaded complies with all legal restrictions.

Privacy

Use of all services is subject to the Loadstone Privacy Policy. Please do not submit personal data or other
confidential material to any of our services without reading this policy.

Donor Credit Policy

The Loadstone team has adopted the following policy for giving credit to supporters who donate or otherwise support the Loadstone project. We will:
Credit everyone on thanks and link to that page from http://www.loadstone-gps.com/
Credit the top 3 donors by equivalent $ value on the home page, as "Loadstone supported by <donor direct links>, and others <link to www.loadstone-gps.com/thanks>."
Try to publicize new supporters via publicity channels.

Changes to this Policy

This policy may change at any time subject to the needs and constraints of the project.
